Sixth Form students at St Clare’s, Porthcawl are celebrating the school’s track record for outstanding results at A-Level, having achieved an outstanding 45% A* grades, 75% A*/A grades and 90% A*/B grades. Students are leaving St Clare’s to embark upon exciting futures at the best universities such as the Russell Group or to start competitive apprenticeships at Tata Steel.

 

St Clare’s has been in the top 5% of top performing A-Level schools in the UK for the last four years and anticipates this to be the same this year. The 2022 A-Level grades build on the excellent results seen in previous years with St Clare’s achieving a clean sweep of 100% pass rate across all subjects, highlighting the school’s strength in both academic and creative fields.

 

Top performing student was Sarah B who secured A*A*A*A* in the notoriously tough STEM subjects Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths. Sarah has accepted a place at Nottingham to study Medicine and once graduated, she is hoping to train as a doctor, and take part in medical research. Sarah joined St Clare’s for Sixth Form and said, “St Clare’s is an amazing Sixth Form, with class sizes you wouldn’t get in any other school. This means you can get the most out of your A-Levels and can enjoy your time in Sixth Form.”

 

Susmita D, Agnes P and Iwan C were also amongst the high-achievers celebrating today.

 

Susmita secured A*A*A in Physics, Graphics and Maths and secured her first-choice university to read Mechanical Engineering at Swansea, with a year in industry. Susmita said, “My Sixth Form experience has been wonderful, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it, from learning to spending time in the common room with friends.”

 

Agnes secured A*A*A in Music, Fine Art and English Literature and secured her first-choice university to read Music at Southampton. Agnes has been at St Clare’s since Nursery and said, “There is a lot of extra help from teachers.”

 

Iwan secured an A*AA in History, Physics and Maths and will be embarking on an exciting 5-year Engineering Apprenticeship at Tata Steel.

 

We are equally proud of  every single Year 13 student for working so hard over the past two years. The huge variation of exciting disciplines that our students are going on to study demonstrates the importance that we place on developing individual passions and skill-sets here at St Clare’s.

Helen Hier, Headteacher, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that our students have achieved such outstanding results.   These are the first students to sit traditional exams post-pandemic and they have shown great determination and resilience. They have been a fantastic year group who have shown leadership, positivity, and commitment.

We are delighted that so many students have secured their first-choice universities to read competitive subjects such as Medicine and Mechanical Engineering or exciting apprenticeships in Engineering.
