St Clare’s School is celebrating fantastic GCSE results again this year with 38.1% of grades at 9-7 (A**/A*/A) compared to 25.1% nationally.  St Clare’s delivers the English curriculum for GCSE examinations and not the Welsh, with the coveted Grade 9 the equivalent of A** denoting exceptional performance. Although University might seem a long way off when deciding on GCSEs, choices at this stage can directly impact on options when it comes to A-Levels and, in turn when applying to university.

This year’s GCSE results are the first that have been sat in the summer since 2019 but remain the same as pre-pandemic level. The school delivers an excellent teaching and learning programme matched by equally impressive pastoral care and support.

Star performers were Lucia Quantick (eight grade 9s, an 8 and a 7) and Megan Lewis  (a grade 9, an A*, six 8s and  two 6s). They are both staying at St Clare’s Sixth Form to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History and Spanish, Maths, Biology, Chemistry respectively. Huge congratulations to them both but equally well done to the many who have worked so hard during the GCSE courses whose grades truly reflect their ability and dedication.

Today’s GCSE results follow last week’s exceptional A-Level results where students achieved 75% at A*/A and 90% at A*/B.  St Clare’s has been in the top 5% of top performing A-Level schools in the UK for the last four years and anticipates this to be the same this year. The 2022 A-Level grades build on the excellent results seen in previous years with St Clare’s achieving a clean sweep of 100% pass rate across all subjects, highlighting the school’s strength in both academic and creative fields. The majority of students secured their first-choice universities to read competitive subjects such as Medicine and Mechanical Engineering or exciting apprenticeships in Engineering. We wish them all every success as they take the next step on their educational journey.
