Independent School in South Wales
Our pupils are happy children with high self-esteem and a strong belief in their abilities, combined with respect for others and their surroundings.
Whilst aiming to give each child the strongest academic start in life that we can, we also encourage them to participate in extra-curricular activities such as art, music, sports and drama.
The Prep School curriculum is periodically reviewed, and takes account of, but is not constrained by, the National Curriculum. Particular emphasis is placed on Reading, English and Mathematics, with a firm basis in spelling and times tables. We ensure that pupils are able to apply these essential skills across the curriculum. Learning is organised to allow pupils to progress as rapidly as their ability allows. Class sizes are carefully limited and are mixed ability. Appropriate amounts of homework are set at all levels.
The curriculum is enhanced by regular educational trips and visitors. Throughout the Prep School children benefit from specialist teaching from our Senior School teachers in Science, French, Spanish, PE, Music and Art. This enables us to offer a successful yet challenging and stimulating educational environment.
The Prep School day starts at 9.00am, and finishes at 3.10pm (Infants) or 3.20pm (Juniors). The out of hours provision then gives the option for children to stay until 5.30pm; providing a light snack and fun and games before parents come to collect them.
St Clare’s warmly welcomes boys and girls aged 4-11 at any time of year.
