Admissions Process

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make.

We are always pleased to  assist parents who would like to find out more about St. Clare’s. Please contact our Registrar to request a prospectus. or to ask any questions you may have about our admissions process. We know that starting a new school, or moving from one school to another, can sometimes be a daunting experience, so no question is insignificant.


The Admissions Process is as follows:

Step One

Request a Prospectus

Contact our Registrar, Mrs Holly Fowlkes, on (01656) 789966 or email her at info@stclares-school.co.uk for an initial conversation about your child and to check availability in the relevant year group, particularly the Nursery where we are enrolling as far ahead as Autumn 2020.  She will send you further information and a Registration Form.

Step Two

Visit Us

Attend an open morning or arrange a private tour of the school with our headteacher, Helen Hier.

We encourage prospective parents to come and see our school in action, either during one of our open mornings which are held each term, or on a private tour. At St. Clare’s, ‘Every Day is an Open Day’ and we are always delighted to arrange a tour on a busy working day to show you why we are so proud of our lovely school.

Step Three

Complete and return a registration form

To apply for a place at St. Clare’s School, please complete our registration form,and return it to us together with payment of a non-refundable registration fee of £50. The Registrar will then contact you to confirm safe receipt of your child’s registration and to discuss the next steps.

Step Four

Invitation to attend a taster day/session

You will receive an invitation for your child to come in for a taster day or taster session.

St. Clare’s is a non-selective school so children do not sit an entrance exam, but for entry from Reception onwards, children will be given age-appropriate assessments during their taster day to enable staff to measure their ability in class so ensuring a smooth transition on entry and to allow us to help them to fulfil their potential.

  • Early Years taster session – children joining the Nursery, Transition and those joining Reception in the following Autumn Term, will be invited to spend the morning with us, usually between 09:30 am and 11:30 am.
  • Taster Days for Prep pupils – children spend the whole school day with us and take part in normal class activities. Lunch will be provided. Children joining St. Clare’s midway through the year will join us for at least one full day.
  • Transition Days for Senior pupils – children in Year 5 and Year 6 spend the whole school day with us and take part in three Senior Transition Days held in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms prior to moving up to Senior School, to make the transition as seamless as possible. Lunch will be provided. Children joining St Clare’s midway through the year will join us for at least one full day.

Step Five

Offer of a Place

Following a successful Taster Day or Session, the Headteacher will write to the prospective parents, officially offering their child a place at St. Clare’s. Upon receipt of the admissions paperwork and the accompanying deposit to secure the place, the Registrar will then contact the parents to discuss a start date for their child.

Children may join St. Clare’s at any stage, if there are available places
