Admissions Process

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make.

We are always pleased to  assist parents who would like to find out more about St. Clare’s. Please contact our Admissions Registrar to request a prospectus. or to ask any questions you may have about our admissions process. We know that starting a new school, or moving from one school to another, can sometimes be a daunting experience, so no question is insignificant.

The Admissions Process is as follows:

Step One

Request a Prospectus

Contact our Admissions Registrar, Mrs Holly Fowlkes, on (01656) 789966 or email her at for an initial conversation about your child and to check availability in the relevant year group, particularly the Nursery where we are enrolling as far ahead as Summer 2021.  She will send you further information. Complete your registration form

Step Two

Book an Open Event

We run open events throughout the academic year and invite all prospective families to attend.

Open events are a great opportunity to see the school in action, speak to our Senior Leadership and Admissions teams and hear from current pupils.

At St. Clare’s, ‘Every Day is an Open Day’ and we are always delighted to arrange a tour on a busy working day to show you why we are so proud of our lovely school.

Step Three

Submit an Application

The application deadline is 31st March for September  2020. However, occasional vacancies may arise; please contact our Admissions Registrar immediately on 01656 789966 to check current availability.

To apply for a place at St. Clare’s School, please complete our registration form

A non-refundable registration fee of £50 can be paid via bank transfer or cheque. Our Admissions Registrar will contact you within 48 hours of receiving your application to confirm completion.

Step Four

Invitation to attend a taster day/session

You will receive an invitation for your child to come in for a taster day or taster session (Nursery).

St. Clare’s is a non-selective school so children do not sit an entrance exam, but for entry from Reception onwards, children will be given age-appropriate assessments during their taster day to enable staff to measure their ability in class so ensuring a smooth transition on entry and to allow us to help them to fulfil their potential.

  • Early Years taster session – children joining the Nursery and those joining Reception in the following Autumn Term, will be invited to spend the morning with us, usually between 09:00 am and 11:15 am.
  • Taster Days for Prep pupils – children spend the whole school day with us and take part in normal class activities. Lunch will be provided. Children joining St. Clare’s midway through the year will join us for at least one full day.
  • Transition Days for Senior pupils – children in Year 5 and Year 6 spend the whole school day with us and take part in three Senior Transition Days held in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms prior to moving up to Senior School, to make the transition as seamless as possible. Lunch will be provided. Children joining St Clare’s midway through the year will join us for at least one full day.

Step Five

Receive an Offer

Following a successful visit, the Headteacher will write to you, officially offering your child a place at St. Clare’s. The offer will remain valid for one week pending receipt of the admissions paperwork and the accompanying deposit to secure the place.

Children may join St. Clare’s at any point in the year provided there is an available place.
