St Clare’s raise almost £2,000 for local cancer charities
Three special visitors were surprised and delighted to receive much-needed funds raised by St. Clare’s, Porthcawl for their cancer charities. Senior and Sixth Form students and staff sported pink back in September to run a “Race for Life” and raised almost two thousand pounds for four cancer charities. The race took place as part of St Clare’s Enrichment Programme
Founder of local charity, Cost of Cancer, Nicky Moss visited with Cath Barnard, former Head of St Clare’s who is now a Trustee for Cost of Cancer too. Elizabeth Griffiths, an ex-pupil of St Clare’s represented Breast Cancer Care and gave a moving talk to the pupils about the research and life-changing care and support the charity offers. Each charity received £486.
Nicky Moss, the Founder of Cost of Cancer knows first-hand how difficult life can be when you’re off work and going through treatment for cancer. Nicky lost her best friend back in 2009, and it was seeing what little financial help they received, that she decided she had to try and make a difference, even if that was a small one. Nicky set up Cost of Cancer to help cancer patients with all those unforeseen costs: the petrol to and from hospital, heating bills and parking, basically to ensure that patients can go through their treatment without extra unnecessary financial worries and can just concentrate on getting better.
Cost of Cancer’s next event is ‘A Light for a Life’ service at The Hi Tide, Porthcawl on Sunday, 1st December. It will be a beautiful service to remember loved ones at Christmas-time.
