St Clare’s Chess Winner for the fourth year running
10 June 2010Julia Malec of St Clare’s School in Porthcawl, has won the year 13 girls title 'British Land' UK Schools Chess Challenge for the fourth year running.
Julia, who is currently sitting her A Levels has won her regional round every year since 2007.
2007 Julia Malec - Girls Year 10
2008: Julia Malec - Girls Year 11
2009: Julie Malec - Girls Year 12
2010: Julie Malec - Girls Year 13
This year Julia only lost one game throughout the whole competition. This is the last year that Julia is able to compete in this competition.
Pupils from St Clare’s School were recently awarded a gold certificate from the ‘Schools Chess Challenge’ (sponsored by British Land plc) for the schools collective achievements from 2003 – 2009.
Chess is one of many different extra-curricular opportunities on offer in St Clare’s School including Make Your Mark Challenge, Young Enterprise, Chemistry Olympiad, Sport, Music and the Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Julia has been involved with Dr Skelton’s Chess Club for many years and her achievements reflect the time and commitment she has put into the game of Chess”.
