St Clare’s Celebrate GCSE results - again!

St Clare’s independent School in Porthcawl celebrated the announcement of a 100% overall pass rate at GCSE with 93.4% of grades at A*-C.
One in 4 results was an A* grade and nearly 1 in 2 results was an A* or A grade. Pupils achieved an outstanding 75.4% pass grade at A*-B compared to 65.5% in 2009. 96.8 % of pupils achieved 5 or more GCSE’s grade A* - C including English and Mathematics. Fifteen subjects achieved passes of over 90% A*-C with 8 achieving an exemplary 100% pass rate at grades A*-C.
Outstanding GCSE results
These excellent results come less than a week after sixth form pupils scored an outstanding 100% pass rate at A-level and an excellent 60% of grades at A*/A at A-level.
St Clare’s School offers Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate sciences at GCSE and A Level and a significant number of pupils each year go on to read subjects such as Medicine and Veterinary Science at university. St Clare’s also offers French and Spanish to GCSE and A-level with Italian available at GCSE in the Sixth Form.
Key achievements at GCSE
Amongst the key achievements this year are:
- Rebecca Cole gained 9A*s and an A grade and intends to study AS/A-levels in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and French.
- Gregor Parker achieved 9A*s and an A and intends to study Chemistry, Biology, Maths and French at AS/A-level.
- Owen Skelton will be studying four A-levels, as well as Italian GCSE, after gaining 9A*s and an A grade at GCSE.
- Katie Nash will be studying Chemistry, Spanish, Maths and French at AS/A-level, as well as Italian GCSE, after gaining 7A* and 3A grades at GCSE
- Emily Aldridge attained 8A*s, an A and a B, and intends to study Chemistry, Biology, History and English at AS/A-level
- Rhiannon Norman gained 3 A* grades and 7 A grades
Other achievements include:
Korean student, Young Min Song, gained 9 GCSEs including 3A*s and 3 A grades. This is a particularly impressive achievement as English is Young Min's second language.
Catherine Barnard who retires as Head of the School this summer commented,
‘I would like to congratulate all of the pupils who have endeavoured to study for these exams and prepare exemplary coursework. Our GCSE results this year have been fantastic and the results reflect all of the pupil’s hard work over the last two years. It’s great to be able to leave the School on such a high’.
