Charlotte’s Guildhall Success

01 March 2010

Charlotte Skidmore, a sixth form pupil at St Clare’s in Porthcawl has been offered a place at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music.

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of Europe's leading conservatoires, offering its students an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals. The School first opened its doors on 27 September 1880 in a disused warehouse in the City of London. Today it is situated in the Barbican and has over 800 full-time music and drama students, with a growing international reputation for its teaching and research.

Charlotte, who is a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, recently won the senior category of Young Singer of the Year in Maesteg Town Hall. Charlotte performed Pan Ddaw’r Nos by Meirion Williams and De Vieni Non Tarda from Mozart’s Marriage Of Figaro. The competition was judged by a panel of distinguished performers including Welsh Opera star Beverly Humphreys.

Headteacher of St Clare’s Catherine Barnard commented, “Charlotte is a very gifted pupil and we are very proud to see her achieving so much whilst still in St Clare’s. We wish her every success in what is sure to be a highly successful music career. Music is one of several new scholarship subjects at St Clare’s School and we hope that with our scholarships we will be able to find and develop more pupils of Charlotte’s calibre.”
