100% Pass rate at A-level
20 August 2009'Tres Bon' and 'Muy Bueno' - St Clare's Celebrate 100% A Level Results
It was 'Tres Bon' and 'Muy Beno' at St Clare's Independent School in Porthcawl today as the school celebrated a 100% A Level pass rate.
The number of pupils receiving A - C grades was an astounding 94.2% with over 75% of pupils receiving A - B grades. Pupils did particularly well at French and Spanish with each subject receiving an impressive full complement of A grades.
Amongst the individual achievements were Emily Wood who will study Modern Languages & European Studies in Bath University after receiving three A grades.
Four students took four A levels this year and they all received A and B grades.
- Harriet Evans from Porthcawl received two A's and two B's and is intending to go on to study Medicine at Birmingham University.
- Nathan Lewis who will be going to Cardiff University to study Business Management with an European Language with two A and two B grades at A Level.
- Young Il Song, known as Matthew, whose second language is English will study Pharmacy in Nottingham University after gaining two A and two B grades.
- Stephanie Theophanides received an A and three B's and is going to study Optometry in London
Other notable results include:
- Nathan Hubbard-Miles who will go on to study Chinese (Modern & Classical) at the School of Oriental and African Studies in UCL, London after gaining two A's and a B in his results.
- James Paget who will be studying Law with European Studies in Cardiff University after earning two A's and a B at A Level.
- Natalie Davies from Porthcawl, a member of the Welsh Shooting team and possible Olympic hopeful who gained two A's and a B and is going to study Physics at Cardiff University. Natalie has chosen to study at Cardiff as it will enable her to carry on training with the Welsh team in the run up to 2012.
- Lauren Williams will be attending the University of Bath to study languages after receiving two A's and a B.
- Deanna Griffiths received two A's and one B and will also be going to the University of Bath to study modern languages.
- Abigail Hawes travels along the M4 to Swansea University to Study International Business Management after gaining an A and two B's.
The Head of St Clare's, Catherine Barnard commented,
'We are thrilled to be able to say that our school has once again achieved outstanding A Level results that are amongst the best in Wales. I am delighted that so many of our students are going on to study at top universities all over Britain which I think is a credit not just to the quality of teaching at St Clare's but the perseverance, dedication and hard work of the pupils here at the school.'.
